Piccolomini Library, Siena Cathedral

The colorful Pinturicchio frescoes of the Piccolomini Library are stunning. The wall panels depict the life of Enea Silvio Piccolomini (1405-64), later Pope Pius II, and were commissioned by his nephew Francesco Todeschini Piccolomini, in 1492. The ceiling panels depict mythological subjects.
The statue visible below is the Three Graces, a Roman copy of the Greek original:

My eyes are completely overwhelmed. Being in the very presence of all of this – I would have been stunned into silence and would have most certainly forgotten I was carrying a camera!

I forgot to mention how little time I had! We were about to leave the cathedral and saw people going into a side room. You had to keep moving in a continuous circuit around the room, so I had to take these photos really fast, in one round. Wish I could have stayed longer!
